Our history

1937
Harry Swegmark founds the company H. Swegmark Fabriks AB. The first products manufactured are dress shields.
1940
Swegmark manufactures ribbon, plastic goods, and sanitary pants. Production of corsets begins at the end of the 1940s.
1953
Production begins of the brand name corset 'Splendide'. It is modelled in advertisements by Inger Juel, the first Miss Sweden.
1955
Production of belts and braces begins.
1957
Criss Cross – a girdle with two permanently welded tapes crossing over the stomach – becomes a huge success.
1958
Harry Swegmark's sons Bengt and Gösta join the company. Bengt trained at a design school in England and launches his first Swegmark collection in this year.
1962
The textile industry gains access to new materials, such as elastic and Fibre K (later called Lycra). Developments in materials lead Swegmark to design the first panty girdle. Swegmark secures its first export deal.
1963
The first bras with elastic shoulder straps are launched.
1964
Swegmark cooperates with Mullsjö Konfektion on the brands 'Lyxita' and 'Splendide'.
1967–68
New factories open in Töreboda. The brands 'Linje bekväm' aimed at the elderly and 'Vinetta Lady' for women over 60 are launched.
1971
A new factory is built in England.
1972
Swegmark's first moulded bra is launched.
1975
Production of swimwear begins.
1976
Swegmark acquires a competing brand 'Fox'.
1981
Swegmark acquires AB Corsettindustri Abecita. Production of sportswear begins.
1990–1995
Swegmark re-organises its activities to concentrate on ladies' underwear, primarily bras in larger sizes. Beside of that the specialities are from here on sports bras, maternity bras and prosthetic bras.
1993
Swegmark acquires Sia New Rosme, based in Riga, Latvia.
1995
Sewing groups are introduced, which cut production times from 10 to 5 weeks.
1996
Swegmark becomes the first bra company in Europe to be quality-certified in accordance with ISO 9001.
1998
Swegmark becomes the first company in the industry to achieve environmental accreditation in accordance with ISO 14001.
2007
Swegmark of Sweden celebrates its 70th anniversary.
