Taking care of your underwear

Your underwear will last significantly longer if you take good care of it and treat it properly. A good bra should last for several years.

Ideally wash by hand

If possible, avoid washing your underwear in the washing machine. The best method of all is to leave your underwear to soak in water. Then wash it clean in a little soft soap or washing-up liquid, rinse thoroughly and hang up to dry. If you want to wash your bras and briefs in a washing machine, the least damaging method is to set the machine at 40 degrees and use a mild washing detergent.

Coloured underwear should always be washed in colour-safe washing detergent. For white garments, you can use a detergent with optical brighteners to restore the whiteness of the fabrics. Never use a washing detergent that contains bleach, even for white garments. Always follow the washing instructions on the garment's label.

Conditioners and softeners are safe to use with most garments, with the exception of sports bras made of microfibre (thin, soft, breathable fibre). The risk with this type of fabric is that the pores of the fibres will become clogged with the rinsing agent and thus lose their breathable properties.

Use a wash bag

If you do decide to wash your underwear in a washing machine, we recommend that you use a wash bag for underwired bras. Otherwise you run the risk of the underwiring working its way out of the garment and damaging the washing machine.

Do not mix garments

Tights should not be washed with white underwear made of synthetic fabrics. All tights contain dye, a small amount of which is released with every wash, and this can easily be absorbed by white briefs and bras. Underwear should ideally be washed separately.

Tumble dry on a low heat

It is best to hang your underwear up to dry, but if you still want to use a tumble dryer, make sure you set it at a low temperature. Otherwise you risk damaging the elastic in the garment. Check the label first to see if it is permissible for the garment to be tumble-dried.
