The Swimwear Guide

How to find swimwear that feels right, all day long

You know that feeling when your swimwear fits just right? When you don't have to think about it once during the entire day? That's what we want to help you find. At Swegmark, we've been working with fit for over 85 years, and we know that the right swimwear is about more than a nice colour — it's about how it feels on your body. Your body.

"Just like when you choose a bra, fit and support are everything when it comes to swimwear too. When it sits right, it enhances your shape in a flattering way and gives you confidence in the water." Helena Thorell, CEO of Swegmark

Start with the same thinking you use when buying a bra

Your bust doesn't care about the colour. It wants the right cup size and the right band measurement — just like always. So when you're looking at a bikini top, ask yourself: does it come in cup sizes? Does it have the right band size for me? If the answer is yes to both, you're already on the right track.

Then you choose underwire or not, padding or not — that's up to you, and both work perfectly well as long as the fit is right. If you swim a lot, a slightly lower leg cut on your bikini bottoms or swimsuit can make a real difference to how freely you move.

Buy for more than just this summer

Choose colours you genuinely love and patterns that won't feel dated by next year. A colour you feel good in goes a long way. Buy bikini pieces separately and stick to the same colour palette — that way you can mix and match, and easily swap to a dry pair mid-day knowing everything still works together.

How to tell if it fits right

Take a moment to move around when you try things on. Lift your arms, lean forward. The right swimwear doesn't need adjusting — it moves with you.

  • Your bust stays in place without spilling into the armhole or out of the neckline

  • You get lift and support without anything digging in

  • The straps sit evenly against your skin, no gaps, nothing pulling

  • The bikini bottoms don't cut into your hips or seat

  • You can move freely and forget you're wearing anything at all

Does it all feel just like that? Then you've found the one.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions

Which bikini top is best if I have a larger bust?

Go for an underwired style with cup sizes and the right band measurement. Halterneck can start to feel heavy over a long day with a larger bust — a bikini top with wider straps and underwire distributes the weight much better.

How do I find the right size when shopping online?

For bikini tops with cup sizes, your regular bra measurement is a great starting point. For swimsuits, start with your regular clothing size for the fit around your body and length, then choose your cup size from there. If you want more of a shaping effect, try going down one size. Each product has its own size recommendations on the product page — read them, they're written specifically for that style.

How do I make my swimsuit last more than one season?

Choose a timeless colour over the pattern of the moment. Look for a style with adjustable straps. If you swim regularly, chlorine-resistant fabric is worth looking for — it makes a real difference to how long your swimwear holds up. Always rinse your swimwear in lukewarm water after swimming. It keeps the fabric soft for much longer.
